Description
This 1972 Dodge Demon 340 was purchased new at Milford Dodge of Milford, Connecticut on November 24, 1971. The car was used as a bracket racer in the 1970s and then was placed in long-term storage until the early 2000s, when it was refurbished and modified. Work consisted of stripping and refinishing the body and subframe, coating the underbody surfaces with bedliner material, and installing a Magnum Force tubular K-member, rack-and-pinion steering, and adjustable front coilovers along with a modified 404ci small-block Mopar R3 V8, a rebuilt 727 three-speed automatic transmission, and a 3.91:1 SureGrip rear axle. The car is finished in gold over black vinyl upholstery, and features include Calvert Racing CalTracs traction bars, subframe connectors, Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes, American Racing 15″ wheels, Intellitronix digital gauges, and an Alpine CD stereo as well as a Holley 850-cfm carburetor, an Edelbrock intake manifold and cylinder heads, MSD digital electronic ignition components, and TTI tubular exhaust headers. The car was awarded first place in the 1970’s Muscle Car class at the 2021 Houston Autorama show. The replacement 340ci R3 V8 is said to have been overbored .100″ and stroked for a total displacement of approximately 404ci. The engine was fitted with a Bullet Racing Cams billet steel roller camshaft, forged-steel I-beam connecting rods, Diamond Racing hypereutectic pistons, stainless-steel valves, beehive-style valve springs, and a Rollmaster nitride-hardened double-roller timing chain. A ceramic coating was reportedly applied to the piston tops and combustion chambers of the cylinder heads, and the piston sides and all bearings were Line-To-Line coated. Additional features include a Holley 850-cfm carburetor, a Wrangler PowerMate alternator, an Edelbrock intake manifold and cylinder heads, MSD electronic ignition components, an oil cooler, and PolyDyn-coated TTI tubular exhaust headers. An aluminum radiator with dual Spal electric fans has been installed, as have engine-bay support bars. The three-spoke Tuff steering wheel frames an Intellitronix digital display with a speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. An Equus tachometer and shift light are mounted to the top of the dashboard, and AutoMeter gauges are positioned to the right of the head unit. The digital odometer shows 34k miles. True chassis mileage is unknown.
